Building a Blog is Hard

I'm very head strong. Once I decide that I want to do something, I'll engulf my life with it. For the last couple of days, I've been working on my new blog: www.BlueprintEconomics.com. I had in my head for some reason that I could start from scratch and efficiently build a personal blog/webpage that suited all of my blogging needs. I found that it is a lot more time consuming than you think. There are tons of web pages on the internet, so how hard could it really be to make one? I was so naive a couple of days ago. But now I'm aware that there is a lot of skill needed in designing a web page. I took computer science in college, but most of this stuff just wasn't covered. What good was that? I'm going to get some help, and hopefully put together something I really want by the summer of 2009. There are some classes at the community college here that can help me out. Do any of you have any suggestions on designing and building a web page???

If you're looking for general tips on how to build and market a blog, the 30 Day Challenge project is amazing. I respond a lot better to video tutorials rather than written ones, so it's really helped me out with everything from software suggestions, SEO work and everything in between. Here's a
link.

I tried to build both my primary website and my blog and it was a LOT of time and work. Having a full-time job on top of that doesn’t help. I don’t have any experience building web pages so I was doing it step by step from books I purchased and rented from the library. My sites were OK, but it just didn’t have the look and feel I wanted/needed. I eventually hired someone because I was spending waaay too much time on it.

If you have the time, energy and patience, go for it!

Yeah, I needed some quicker results so I used a professional lay-out with some touch up of my own. It went a lot faster. If I feel the need and the passion to create my own, it'll probably take a couple of months or so. Because I really am starting from scratch and I have a full-time job too. Check out what I've got done so far here.

I know from experience with web design (that's what my ASB is specialized in) that getting the look you want isn't always easy. So far your site looks pretty good.

The content I've seen on it looks pretty good, too. Keep up the work. You never know who you'll be able to help!
